As mentioned for the Copyright/Dedication spread, these kinds of paintings are really just decorative exercises. You float the paint around until it looks right. Despite how easy it was to do, it was pretty satisfying. Whenever possible, I like using painted endpapers---for me, they feel like the music that plays over the opening credits of a movie. Maybe they aren't critical, but they do a wonderful job of setting the mood of the story right away.
