The Duomo at Night

Done on location from the terrace of the Hotel Medici (about 60 minutes)

Our hotel in Florence had an unbelievable view from the rooftop terrace.  One block away was the Duomo, a stunning building.  One afternoon, around 7pm, we witnessed a major thunderstorm passing directly overhead, while under the ledge of the roof.  We actually saw lightning strike the top of the Baptistery 100 yards away--one of the most indelible memories of the trip.  

I don't know how many pictures I took of the Duomo.  The day after painting this, I was working on another painting, and took about 15 pictures, from the same angle, just documenting how the light was changing on the facade of the Campanile.  To see what the view looked like, go here
