Our hotel in Florence
had an unbelievable view from the rooftop terrace. One block away
was the Duomo, a stunning building. One afternoon, around 7pm, we
witnessed a major thunderstorm passing directly overhead, while under the
ledge of the roof. We actually saw lightning strike the top of the Baptistery
100 yards away--one of the most indelible memories of the
trip.
I don't know how many
pictures I took of the Duomo. The day after painting this, I was
working on another painting, and took about 15 pictures, from the same
angle, just documenting how the light was changing on the facade of the
Campanile. To see what the view looked like, go here.
