This was really just an exercise of sorts. Because the copyright/dedication spreads are usually just "mood music" there wasn't any part of the narrative intended for this spread. Ultimately, I just messed around with a winter storm/night sky kind of feeling until it felt right. Why a winter storm? I wanted to foreshadow the storm to come. As you can see from the sketch & color comp, originally there was supposed to be a landscape of night lights visible where the white area is. After painting the initial layers, I liked the ethereal quality of the white area too much to cover it up!
