Technically, this was a difficult painting. All the models were photographed at different times and places except the mother and boy, and even with them, the reference was from different photographs so the car had to be "constructed" visually, based on reference from many angles---this isn't how you normally want to approach something like this! I'm proudest of the reflected Christmas lights, I had finished everything else in the painting and was feeling underwhelmed by it, but then adding the lights in gave the painting something I hadn't anticipated---a nice little bit of visual chaos.
