Aunt Cleo's
Sketch Color Comp Painting
Watercolor
Originally, this wasn't one of my favorites, or one I was particularly looking forward to. As it turned out, I liked it more than I expected---especially the palette of the far left panel.
All the photo reference for the panels were shot at different times and places which led to some funny situations. The third from left, the "older brother", is my friend's son, Robbie Carter, who bravely dressed up in winter clothes and posed in the middle of suburbia in 100 degree, mid-June, heat. (Robbie was also the model for the boy in my other book The Prince of Butterflies.)
My older brother, who modeled for the "dad" throughout, I knew I could count on for the grumpy countenance of the young traveling dad.
