Problem:
This was for a
cover story about maintaining your "Endurance"
of faith. Anne asked for a simple painting of some beat
up old tennis shoes. A similiar problem really to the
German image, how do you make something pedestrian
interesting to look at?
Solution:
This was
surprisingly fun to paint. The background is a swirling,
iridescent blue with all kinds of texture from the way
the pigment settled into the paper.
I see my work moving in this direction. More painterly images, with more texture. It isn't something you can predict, which keeps it interesting.
