On Christmas Eve
Dick,
Here are a bunch of things relating to the Motel Sign seen throughout the
book.
1. My Final Design

Before this terrifies you to much by it's "active" design,
Please look at some of the photo reference to suggest how it might actually appear in the
book. (It will be much less noticeable) Below is the sign I was using for the
"MOTEL" text....as you can see, at night the text is the main focus, with the
outline of the sign barely discernible at all. That's how I plan to paint it in the
book as well. With all the other stuff in the landscapes/spreads, I don't think it
will be that aggressive.
Right now this is just a flat line drawing pasted to some foam-core, so I
can photograph the sign in perspective and I don't need to redraw it completely each time.

The color for the text of the sign will be slightly different as well.
What I'm planning is to paint the "MOTEL" in red as the
"Avalon" is shown above, the "Vacancy" in green as shown below, and
the "star" as a white-blue similar to the "MOTEL" text.

This is the green text effect I plan for the "Vacancy" part of
my sign.
Here's some of the other reference I used for making the sign. The
star is on the left/top, and the text design for the "vacancy".
