At The Window
Sketch Color Comp Painting
Watercolor
I like how this painting ended up, and I think it's partially due to the very low expectations I had for it! A darkened, monochromatic room, a single standing figure silhouetted, I thought it was going to be a boring painting. The process of painting it turned out to be a lot more dramatic than I thought.
For a litany of reasons, I ended up inventing the drapery entirely---something I try not to do when everything else is portrayed this realistically. Halfway through, I thought I was going to have to scrap the entire painting, and just about everything else was finished. Not a good feeling. The nice thing about watercolor is if you keep painting while something is going wrong, you get more and more desperate. In that state of mind, I took a large brush and washed over the entire bedspread...and it looked more promising. From there I was able to finish it.
As an aside, I just love how the peanut butter crackers turned out with the little bar code. It made my day.
